"There doesn't seem to be any breaks available to our generation"
What is your biggest struggle as a millennial right now?
Getting out of my parents' house and into a job and property of my own (even rented). There doesn't seem to be any breaks available to our generation.
Do you think a degree is worth much in today’s job market? Why?
Not at all - job applications ask for experience, not education. My years in education don't compete with years of experience in the job market.
What was your worst job experience?
Being expected to drop my university commitments to work extra hours in retail for minimum wage and a boss who couldn't remember my name.
Stability or Defiance?
Equal amounts of both is ideal - I want to push the boundaries that women have lived within for too long but ultimately I want to build my own stability. I have a daughter so security is paramount.
What do your parents say?
They're angry that the avenues open to them and even my older siblings are shutting down and leaving me with very little opportunity. They're happy to support me though, which is lucky for me! They feel stuck for how best to help without the disposable income to buy me into the property market.
Biggest Regret?
Being too scared to take risks.
What makes you most angry right now?
The mainstream media/news outlets. Constant negativity, scare-mongering and misery is the worst contributor to bad mental health in this country in my opinion.
What keeps you awake at night?
Too many thoughts! I have a head full of ideas and too few theories about how to make them happen!
What do you want to say to the system and everyone in control of it?
Think about the future. If everyone making decisions right now were to consider the lives of their children/grandchildren and the world they will have to navigate I honestly believe they would make different choices.
Biggest accomplishment so far?
My daughter - crazy, kind, wild, creative, loving, fierce girl that she is.
What keeps you going?
My family and something down in my toes which makes me want to fight for things, use my voice and create.
What's the dream?
Earning money doing creative things that I am in charge of, and just enough to allow me to live a colourful and contented life with my girl.
